Dr. Sylvio L. C. de Moraes, a Maxillofacial and Craniofacial Surgeon, is a double-degree doctor, graduated in Dentistry and Medicine. His university degree in Dentistry is from Federal Fluminense University in the city of Niteroi (1981), having attended medical residency in Maxillofacial Surgery and Traumatology at Antonio Pedro University Hospital – UFF-HUAP (1981-1983). He holds a Specialist degree from the Institute of Dentistry of Pontifical Catholic University – PUC-RJ (1989). His university degree in Medicine is from Gama Filho University – UGF in the city of Rio de Janeiro (1999), having attended medical residency in General Surgery at the 15th Infirmary of Santa Casa de Misericordia of Rio de Janeiro (1999 to 2002), under Head of Clinic, Prof. Dr. José Carlos Vinháes.
He is a Fellow of the University of Basel (Switzerland) in Maxillofacial, Craniofacial, and Reconstructive Surgery (1996). He is a faculty member at the AO Foundation (Switzerland) since 1994, in international Craniomaxillofacial Skeletal Fixation.
He was an AO/ASIF Member of the Board of the Latin American Craniomaxillofacial Surgery (AO-CMF-LAT) and Coordinator of the AO Brazilian Committee of Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgery (Chairman, AO-CMF-LAT Brazil) between the years 2004 and 2008. He remains as AO International Faculty. He works mainly in the areas of congenital and or acquired defects in the field of Maxillofacial, Craniofacial, and Oral Surgery.
He is the founder and has been the Chief of Craniofacial and Maxillofacial Surgery at Sao Francisco Hospital since 1991.
He has belonged to the Staff of the Emergency Department of HUAP-UFF since 1983.
He has been a member of the Brazilian College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery since 1982, and its President in the 2016-2017 Term.
He is a Fellow of the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (IAOMS); an Associate Member of the Brazilian College of Surgeons (CBC); and Professor, of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Dental School São José University (UNISJ) and Serra dos Órgãos University (UNIFESO).
